DESIGN CHALLENGE 2025: Brunel Design Students Take on the Toy Industry with Moose Toys

Made in Brunel’s DESIGN CHALLENGE event brought together creativity, collaboration, and real-world problem-solving as design students from all years joined forces with the Made in Brunel team at Plus X Innovation for an exciting toy design challenge, hosted by Moose Toys.

This hands-on event gave students the opportunity to ideate, prototype, and pitch their innovative toy concepts to industry professionals, providing a glimpse into the world of commercial toy design.

The Challenge: Bringing Play to Life

Working in teams of three to four, students were tasked with conceptualising and designing brand-new toy ideas. With guidance from Moose Toys, participants were encouraged to push creative boundaries while ensuring their designs were engaging, feasible, and innovative. Each team worked through the design process, from brainstorming ideas to sketching initial concepts, and finally, presenting their visions.

A Creative Space for Innovation

Hosted at Plus X Innovation, the event provided students with access to a dynamic and inspiring workspace, equipped with materials and tools to bring their ideas to life. Using simple yet effective materials such as cardboard and paper, students created physical models and detailed drawings to communicate their concepts.

At the end of the challenge, teams had the opportunity to pitch their toy designs to representatives from Moose Toys, receiving expert feedback and industry insights. The winners, selected by the Moose Toys hosts, were awarded a special event token, which could be exchanged for exclusive Made in Brunel REMASTERED merchandise—a unique and coveted prize among students.

A Platform for Future Innovators

Our DESIGN CHALLENGE was more than just a competition; it was an invaluable learning experience, giving students the chance to engage with industry professionals, enhance their teamwork skills, and gain practical experience in toy design. The event highlighted the importance of hands-on experimentation, collaboration, and creative problem-solving—all essential skills for aspiring designers.

Brunel University and Made in Brunel continue to provide platforms for students to develop industry connections and showcase their talent, ensuring that the next generation of designers is ready to make an impact in the world of innovation.
