Made in Brunel is a student-led brand which showcases the innovative, intelligent and professional graduates of Brunel University
Encompassing a host of events throughout the year, Made in Brunel aims to engage and inspire industry, opening their eyes to a rich pool of up and coming talent.
Each year culminates in a main exhibition in June, which is supported by the Made in Brunel annual book, a record of the culmination of work from Brunel University’s most innovative thinkers.
For Made in Brunel this year we want to inject the active passion and drive back into the brand’s presence, through focusing on the importance of the individuals that push to shape a brand that represents our potential. We want to improve our relationships with industry, by giving students a platform not only to showcase their work, but to voice their opinion.
We are constantly trying to attain these goals in everything we do, for example this is the first year Made in Brunel has hosted a workshop at the prestigious V&A Museum. This event alone has ignited excitement amongst students, staff and corporate relations of Brunel University. Throughout all of the activities we carry out, we strive to create opportunities for individual expression and communication of opinions, to invite conversation about the people behind the work.
This year, we do not want to follow the path of previous years, but instead, go where there is no path and leave a trail.
We believe what someone has to say, and how they express themselves is one of the most individual things about them.
This year we wanted to focus on the individuals, the people behind the work and not solely their projects, and with that create an identity that would be dynamic, and constantly change to reflect the diverse range of people we have at Brunel.
The identity stemmed from The Big 5 Personality Test - a series of questions that reflects all aspects of an individuals personality. From this we were able to create a shape unique to each person.
As a result our visual identity reflects each and every one of us.
This year I hope to instil excitement back into Made in Brunel, the same rush when I first experienced the brand and aspired to be in the role I am now. It has so much potential, and I hope that this year we not only show what we, as Brunel students, can do, but also what Made in Brunel can be.
I plan to deliver a Made in Brunel book that is completely different in every way to previous years, let's take the book off the book shelf and place it onto the coffee table!
I want people to understand what it means to be ‘Made in Brunel’, to expand the scope of the brand within a new exciting identity, and make more people aware of what we do at Brunel.
I would love for people to stand back and have another look at Made in Brunel this year. It would be great if the safe stereotype of Brunel designers is turned on its head. I want to show industry that Brunel designers have an opinion, and they can produce something new, fresh and exciting!
This year I want to make it much easier for people to understand what Made in Brunel is all about through a new mobile-friendly website and engaging video interviews with Brunel students and alumni.http://samlester.net
I want students to be able to showcase their work in an environment that allows their personalities and the quality of the work to shine through. Every Brunel student has a story and a voice; I want to deliver a show, along with events throughout the year, that get people excited about what we at Brunel can do.
I am passionate about creating a successful show for Made in Brunel. It will be our final chance to showcase what we have learnt in the past 4 years and to use this opportunity to launch the careers that will shape the rest of our lives.
Brunel Postgraduate students come from very diverse backgrounds. This year, It's my aim to show-off this versatile group by involving more post-grads to actively be a part of Made in Brunel.
Isambard Kingdom Brunel, a famous 'British' Engineer, gives Brunel its name. I want Brunel Engineers to showcase their fantastic work and show how we earn our name.
