Since 2006 Made in Brunel has been the student led showcase of creativity from Brunel’s designers, engineers and innovators
Encompassing a host of events throughout the year, Made in Brunel aims to engage and inspire industry, opening their eyes to a rich pool of up and coming talent.
Each year culminates in a main exhibition in June, which is supported by the Made in Brunel annual book, a record of the culmination of work from Brunel University’s most innovative thinkers.
For Made in Brunel this year we want to inject the active passion and drive back into the brand’s presence, through focusing on the importance of the individuals that push to shape a brand that represents our potential. We want to improve our relationships with industry, by giving students a platform not only to showcase their work, but to voice their opinion.
We are constantly trying to attain these goals in everything we do, for example this is the first year Made in Brunel has hosted a workshop at the prestigious V&A Museum. This event alone has ignited excitement amongst students, staff and corporate relations of Brunel University. Throughout all of the activities we carry out, we strive to create opportunities for individual expression and communication of opinions, to invite conversation about the people behind the work.
This year, we do not want to follow the path of previous years, but instead, go where there is no path and leave a trail.
We believe what someone has to say, and how they express themselves is one of the most individual things about them.
This year we wanted to focus on the individuals, the people behind the work and not solely their projects, and with that create an identity that would be dynamic, and constantly change to reflect the diverse range of people we have at Brunel.
The identity stemmed from The Big 5 Personality Test - a series of questions that reflects all aspects of an individuals personality. From this we were able to create a shape unique to each person.
As a result our visual identity reflects each and every one of us.
Whether it be enabling you to achieve something you previous couldn’t, bringing a smile to her face, or helping him feel less self-conscious about his differences, I design because I want to make change.
Making stuff, having ideas, researching problems and creating together is always a whole lot of fun. But to me the core of Design is to make a difference with a lasting impression.
I design products users not only need but love. As long as someone somewhere thinks my design has made a difference to them then all the work that has gone into it is worthwhile.
I design to change the rules, redefine the norm and settle for nothing less than perfection. Design allows me to channel creativity and passion into making the impossible possible.
I design because it matters. Design gives us the ability to change the world we live in, and ultimately the future.
Because design asks the best questions.
I design to enhance people’s lives. To make a difference by adding personal touches that spark emotion and desire that imprints in the user’s memory forever.
Design enables us to solve problems innovatively. Without design we would live in a world without personality.@serieseight
