On Friday the 18th of November, students from Brunel University’s School of Engineering and Design got together to celebrate the ongoing development of Made in Brunel and share the experiences and stories gained since work began 6 weeks ago. A mix of Digital Media, Product and Industrial Design and Engineering students packed out the Michael Sterling building’s atrium for the evening, with many in attendance already having put time in to helping to develop the ongoing vision for Made in Brunel 2012.

The evening kicked off with a brief announcement of the progress of the different teams involved in Made in Brunel this year (Brand & Communication, Events, Digital Media & Web and Story) which, albeit slightly quiet compared to the throngs of people that showed up, was spectacle enough to cause the only casualty of the night: an innocent cup of wine left to fend for itself against the power of gravity. Points of note include the announcement of the venue for this year (Made in Brunel’s return to the Bargehouse), the launch of the Made in Brunel 2012 news blog (this one!) and the results of the much contested Made in Brunel T-shirt competition.
With nearly one-hundred high quality entries to choose from, the task set for Brand & Communications manager Sophie O’Kelly to choose a winner was never going to be easy -but eventually a top design was decided, and with the agreement of the managers from every team involved in Made in Brunel we can now formally announce the winning design of the Made in Brunel 2012 T-Shirt competition is:

Congratulations to first year Mechanical Engineering student Song Wang, whose design will be available on the tee-shirts in the coming fortnight!
Following the raptuous burst of applause for the winner (who was unfortunately absent) the crowd dispersed in to light conversation, either looking at examples of the Made in Brunel class of 2011’s work, posting their views on Made in Brunel related topics on our Post-It wall or taking part in the production of this year’s video Christmas card, the details of which will be announced soon.

Lasting but a short 90 minutes, everyone involved had a great time contributing to the ongoing journey of Made in Brunel 2012, and we plan to continue to deliver the story of our journey to you over the next seven months leading up to the main event.
