Pecha Kucha’s reputation for innovative thinking goes hand-in-hand with Made in Brunel, and for the past four years visitors to the show have been treated to presentations from world-famous industry leaders. 2011 is no exception, and Made in Brunel are proud to announce this year’s line-up.

Mark Bond
Currently head of design for Home & Furniture at Tesco. Graduating from the RCA in 1994, Mark established his own design consultancy working with high profile companies such as Hermes fashion house, the Design Museum, the Barbican Centre, the Design Council, the British Council, WGSN and Habitat UK. Mark has curated exhibitions, co-authored books, lectured internationally, trend forecasted, and judged design competitions.
Mark has also worked with the Home Retail Group, Marks & Spencer, ran the design team at Conran & Partners and designed for SCA. He has travelled extensively and collaborated with manufacturers globally developing designs in most product areas.

Philip Dodd
An internationally recognised expert in the field of culture and creative industries, Philip Dodd is regularly invited to speak and advise on the creative industries, from Chaoyang District Government, Beijing, to Sapporo City Government, Japan, to the UK and appears frequently in the international media from the Financial Times to BBC World Service. He has helped the UK government develop its cultural and creative industries strategy and is credited with helping to develop the government’s ‘Cool Britannia’ strategy. He is an award-winning broadcaster and editor, and currently represents a weekly programme for the BBC. In 2004, he was described by The Guardian as “one of two of the cleverest analysts of the political-cultural changes of his generation”.

Maxine Horn
Maxine is the founder and was CEO of British Design Innovation (BDI), the trade association for designers and innovators from 1993 to January 2011 which played a role in the early recognition and promotion of James Dyson (Dyson Vacuums), Trevor Baylis (Wind Up Radios) and Jonathan Ives (Apple). She initiated Creative Barcode and hand-picked the co-creation team in 2009 and soft launched it in late September 2010. In less than six months Creative Barcode has received worldwide attention and is regularly cited side by side as compatible to, but the alternative to, Creative Commons established more than a decade ago and benefitting from nearly £5 million per annum patronage of Google and Microsoft. With over 20 years’ experience in the design, innovation and knowledge transfer sectors of the creative industries, she is an advisory member of the UKIPO B2B Strategy Group.

Sarah Liddell
Sarah Liddell is Research, Design and Development Manager at Dyson. She studied product design at Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication and worked as a Senior Designer at Dyson before becoming RDD Manager.

Jack Mama
Creative Director of the Probes programme at Philips Design. Probes projects are ‘far-future’ research initiatives aimed at identifying long-term systemic shifts and anticipating changes in future lifestyles. Examples of recent probes projects include Electronic Tattoo, Emotional Dresses and Sustainable Habitat 2020. A graduate in Industrial Design at the Royal College of Art (RCA), Jack worked and taught within the same department and, in his capacity as research fellow, established links between the leading edge technologies at the Thorn-EMI research laboratories and innovative design at the RCA.

Simon Manchipp
Co-Founder & Creative Director of SomeOne. The progressive London design practice involved in high profile branding projects worldwide. Recent work includes rebranding Eurostar, creating the pictograms for the London 2012 Olympic Games & rebranding The Royal Observatory. A widely published voice in design, Simon is on the board of external examiners for St. Martins School of Art. He has lectured widely and recently chaired ‘Brand 2.0′ — the fastest selling D&AD lecture ever held.

Sanjay Patel
Packaging Innovation Manager for the Coca-Cola Company, Patel has worked in packaging for 16 years, the last four of which with Coca-Cola. His career includes agrochemical packaging at Syngenta, Personal Care Innovation at PZ Cussons, and protective foam packaging in San Francisco.

Harry Pearce
Harry’s work touches many disciplines, from spatial design and identity to print and packaging. His clients range from Phaidon Publishing, Williams F1 and Kangol to Shakespeare’s Globe, Saks Fifth Avenue, the Science Museum and Boots, for whom Harry has created designs for over 23 years. Some of his major corporate identity work includes Halfords and The Co-operative.
Harry is dedicated to supporting human rights. Over the last 15 years he has created all the design material for Witness in New York City, founded by the musician and activist Peter Gabriel. He also sits on the advisory board. -
Luke Pearson
Partner at PearsonLloyd, Luke Pearson trained in industrial design at the Central St Martins School of Art in London before completing a Masters in furniture design at the Royal College of Art in 1993. He then worked as senior designer with Ross Lovegrove in London and on a variety of furniture and product design projects of his own before joining Tom Lloyd to found PearsonLloyd. PearsonLloyd has won many design awards such as the DBA Design Effectiveness Award for the Virgin Atlantic Upper Class Seat, as well as the Premium Economy Seat; the Focus in Gold Award for PARCS for Bene; and the Red Dot Award for the cobi™ chair for Steelcase.

Callum Rex Reid
CEO Digicave, Callum’s background is as a film maker, producing 30 features for a range of clients including the BBC, Sky, CNN and MTV. As CEO of Digicave, he has been pushing the boundaries of 3D image capture, developing a system for bringing detailed 3D models to the web. He participates at MEX for the first time and will share his ideas as part of Pathway #4, exploring the future role of mobile devices in 3D content creation and the user experience challenges to be overcome.

Stuart Watson
Currently Creative Director at venturethee, Stuart Watson is an award-winning designer, creator of Oi, the first GSM mobile company in Brazil and part of the team that created the Sky ‘glassmark’. As well as his pivotal role on Sky, he is also Creative Director for The Times and The Sunday Times newspapers, and has created the identity for On, an exciting new international brand for Orange. Most recently Stuart has lead the revitalization of Little Chef in the UK.
